| The Hopton School House The Hopton School House was built in 1741 from funds provided by Frances Hopton upon her death. A trust established in her will, The Hopton School Trust, administered the School House to provide education for the children of Cam, "even the most humble". The original schoolroom was half of the ground floor of the School House and the Trust's income also enabled them to pay the salary of the School Master and School Mistress (usually his wife) and provide materials for the children to use. The Hopton School Trust still owns the School House (now a Grade 1 Listed Building) and in 1999 the trust decided to embark on an ambitious project to provide playgroup and out-of-school club provision in the School House. A partnership with Upper Cam Under Fives was established and after securing funding from the New Opportunities Fund and other organisations, work was undertaken to convert the building into a childcare facility. After a gap of many years, the School House reopened in 2002, restored to its original use. The Team All staff are working towards or qualified level 2 or 3 with one Early Years Professional and a SENCO qualified staff member. Hopton School House offers a welcoming environment for children to participate in the range of activities offered. The varied programme includes arts, sports and recreational activities. In addition, there is provision for children who simply wish to relax or play quietly. We aim to provide a secure, safe and stimulating environment for all children attending the School House, meeting the needs of individual children and promoting their welfare. The Early Learning Goals are covered. The Management Committee oversees both Playgroup and Out-of-School Club activities and meets once a term. Sub-committees of the Management Committee meet on a regular basis to discuss relevant issues in more detail and to support the work of the Playgroup and Out-of-School Club Play Leaders and staff. Although the committee is independent of Cam Hopton School and The Hopton School Trust, certain trustees are co-opted to provide a link with the school and its activities. Our governing document is the PATA Constitution, a copy of which is available on request.
Quality Childcare provided at the School House meets the National Standards and we are registered and inspected by OFSTED (registration number EY239574). Our staff are selected for their qualifications, experience, skills and ability to work with children. They are required to be highly motivated and work as part of the overall team. All staff are encouraged to pursue training opportunities and we provide ongoing staff development.
